The article provides a brief analysis of the assessment of the combat capabilities of artillery units and, in particular, the determination of their fire capabilities. The combat mission of artillery units and the tasks that they carry out are directly dependent on the combat capabilities of these units. The combat capabilities of artillery units are their ability to hit the enemy with fire and maneuver in specific conditions of the situation. The capabilities of artillery units to defeat the enemy are called fire capabilities. The fire capabilities of artillery are expressed by the number of objects with which the artillery is capable of inflicting the necessary level of damage with the existing (assigned) number of guns and ammunition.
Fire capabilities are used to plan the use of artillery during tactical missions. In addition, the commander of the artillery unit added to the combined-arms unit (unit) or intended to support it must come to the commander of the general unit (unit) and be ready to report to him the composition, position, condition, security, received assignments of the subordinate unit, set ammunition consumption, and also his fire capabilities.
This requires the artillery commander and artillery headquarters to constantly know the fire capabilities of the subordinate units. For this, the commander and chief of staff must know how to determine fire capabilities. The article proposes a methodology and practical examples for determining fire capabilities, which are expressed by the number of single targets, or by the area of a group target. When performing tasks on preparing and maintaining barrage fire, creating smoke screens, creating glare lines and the like, it is advisable to express the firing capabilities by the length of their lines. The article analyzes the dependence of fire capabilities on the number of guns in a subunit and their fire mode, the duration of fire impact on the enemy, and based on this analysis, the procedure for determining the maximum amount of fire tasks that can be performed by this subunit by the established amount of ammunition or for a certain period of time is proposed.References
